Getting Back on Your Knees: Points on Avoiding Possible Sports Injuries

“The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That's real glory."
- Vince Lombardi

So Lombardi is a football coach. Having his quotes above inspired a thousand more athletes to rise within every fall. Injuries can be common in the go and tackle field of sports. They occur more often than we anticipate. Good thing though about modernization today is there are great and advanced techniques to heal sports related injuries.

But then, they say prevention is still better than cure, now how can athletes, amateur and professional avoid these injuries? Pre-empting? Preparedness? Let’s have these tips below:

1.      Be ready. So being ready doesn’t only mean physically but mentally as well. Put your mind into what you are doing in order to avoid distraction. Be gear ready too. Use gears such as helmets and body protection. It’s better safe than sorry, again, they say.

2.      Warm Up. Aside from your everyday practice prior to the sports you will be undertaking, a warm up before the game will loosen those stiff muscles and tendons that might cause injury later. Stretch it slow but sure and make sure to cool down too after the game.

3.      Know the game. Knowing the game means knowing its rules and the clean or dirty way of playing it. Pre-empting possible dirty tactics will help you prepare for those possible injuries that may appear for you and your team. Make sure you study some defensive maneuvers too.

4.      Be a good sportsman too. Make sure that you won’t get the injury or be causing the injury. Watch out for other people and make sure that you don’t do them harm. That’s the true essence of avoiding this sports related injury, incurring self-responsibility.

5.      Rest during games. Have alternates. Recharge first, sometimes fatigue can be the major reason of not doing well or not performing well in team games. Take time to rest during games and make sure you hydrate well.

6.      Quit when it’s not safe. So if you are injured and quite unsafe to play, don’t be a hero. Stop playing and get treated. A little tear now might lead to a bigger problem if not given the right medication right after.

Yes, as the quotes above said, it doesn’t matter if you fall, what matters most is how you stand up and survive an ordeal. It goes with sports matters and other things in our world. There isn’t a fool proof way to avoid getting hurt, especially if it’s a physical sport but you can find ways and prepare yourself in order to lessen the impact later.

You can follow the tips above. Or your team can even have its own way of doing things. Make sure that you protect yourself and your team mates in the process. But if these injuries can’t be avoided, you can seek treatments out there. Surely, this will just be a breeze especially with modern technologies today. That is if you haven’t done an extensive damage already. That’s it for now, have a safe and injury-free game ahead!
